Building with a green thumb
Tewksbury development has designs on protecting water supply
Sblendorio's attitude is more in keeping with that of the
designers of America's earliest suburbs, men such as Llewellyn
S. Haskell and Frederick Law Olmsted. Planning
Board member Bruce Schundler: "I think (Sblendorio) showed
that a builder can develop in a way that can do a lot of things
to protect the environment."

Creating a Model
Ecofriendly Housing Project
Fern Valley, a four-lot residential subdivision that will
be the first of its kind, according to several environmental
groups in the state, quickly won approval - and even enthusiasm
- from local planners. The idea is to actually improve the
environment at the site by developing it.

Fern
Valley embodies green design
"Green development practices are incorporated into
the landscape and buildings to maximize ecological benefits,
energy savings, use of renewable resources, and natural
resource regeneration. Green development addresses environmental
concerns at the beginning of the design process to ensure
that they are given the serious attention they deserve.
The Fern
Valley subdivision application embodies green design in
a residential development site. If built, perhaps it will
be able to serve as a demonstration project in the future."
